Australian touring car driver Karl Reindler has been forced to flee for his life when his car exploded in flames in a V8 Supercar series race.
Reindler clawed his way out of his burning car Sunday after it stalled on the grid and was hit at high speed by rival driver Steve Owen, erupting into a fireball both inside and out. Reindler's car was all but incinerated, the outside left a fire-whitened shell and its interior heavily damaged at Barbagallo Raceway .
The 26-year-old Reindler said he suffered burns to his hands and face. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
Reindler said "I saw flames inside the car, I guess I panicked and tried to get out as quick as I could. My body's fine, it's just my hands."
