MUMBAI (Reuters) - The Kolkata Knight Riders attack restricted Pune Warriors to a paltry 118 for seven to set up a seven-wicket win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday.
Kolkata vindicated captain Gautam Gambhir's decision to bowl first as they made life miserable for the Pune batsmen on a slow wicket that offered prodigious turn for the spinners.
Captain Yuvraj Singh top-scored with 24 for IPL debutants Pune, who are already out of contention for the playoffs, as they lost wickets at regular intervals.
Shakib Al Hasan, Yusuf Pathan and Lakshmipathy Balaji picked up two wickets apiece for the Kolkata outfit, who posted their eighth victory in the tournament.
Gambhir (54 not out) and Pathan (29) added 64 runs for the third wicket for the Kolkata side as they romped to victory with 20 balls to spare.
Pune lost their ninth match in the tournament while Kolkata moved up to third spot, boosting their chances of making it to the IPL playoffs.
