DUBLIN, Ohio, June 3 (Reuters) - American Steve Stricker vaulted spectacularly into a two-shot lead at the Memorial tournament on Friday with an ace at the par-three eighth in the second round at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
The world number eight struck a six-iron from 188 yards and watched as his ball bounced a couple of times on the green before rolling straight into the cup.
He raised both arms skywards in delight before being congratulated by his caddie Jimmy Johnson.
Stricker's hole-in-one lifted him to eight under overall, two strokes clear of fellow Americans Ricky Barnes and Jonathan Byrd, Australian Rod Pampling and Britain's Rory McIlroy.
Barnes (70), Byrd (67), Pampling (66) and McIlroy (72) had all finished their rounds earlier in the day at six-under 138.
