SYDNEY (AP) — Australia and New South Wales center Berrick Barnes has withdrawn from the remainder of the Super 15 season after sustaining another head knock, putting him in doubt for the Rugby World Cup.
Barnes told a news conference Tuesday he was following medical advice to take a break from rugby and would not return for the Waratahs this season, even if they reached the Super 15 final.
He said he was still hopeful of playing at the Rugby World Cup, starting September in New Zealand.
Barnes has been diagnosed with a condition being referred to as "footballer's migraine," which makes him feel drowsy after strenuous exercise.
He left the field minutes after half an hour of the Waratahs' Super 15 win over the Otago Highlanders on the weekend.
