PERTH, Australia (AP) — One of Australia's hottest rugby talents is in Super 15 limbo after the Western Force withdrew a contract extension offer for James O'Connor.
O'Connor, who made his Super rugby debut with the Force in 2008 at age 17, indicated last week that he'd prefer to stay with the club, but contract negotiations were halted — after more than four months — following a Wednesday morning deadline.
Rugby Western Australia chief executive Vern Reid says it was with regret that he withdrew the Force's offer after failing to get a response from O'Connor's representatives. "However, we can be certain that we did everything we could to retain his services."
O'Connor has recently been linked with moves to the Melbourne Rebels or Queensland Reds.
