Latest from Sports - Dual international Rex Mossop dead at 83

SYDNEY, (AP) — Dual Australian rugby and rugby league international and television commentator Rex Mossop has died aged 83, league officials said.

Mossop played eight rugby union tests for Australia as a lock between 1948 and 1951 before switching to rugby league, where he played the first of his nine tests for Australia in 1958 aged 30.

Mossop played 136 league matches for the Manly club, retiring in 1963 aged 35. Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles spokesman Peter Peters said Mossop was "an icon of our club, he was our first dual international and he was larger than life."

Mossop was Australia's leading rugby league commentator from the early 1970s until 1990, famed for verbal slips which became known as Mossopisms.

He died Friday at Royal North Shore Hospital.
