WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — The French rugby team has reportedly booked one of New Zealand's swankiest restaurants during this year's World Cup, one of the first signs of increased economic acitivity since the tournament was awarded to New Zealand six years ago.
The New Zealand Herald says France will take over the 100-seat Kermadec restaurant in Auckland for the duration of the Cup in September and October, enjoying dishes such as live oysters, pig's nose, John Dory fish and wild red deer.
New Zealand expects the World Cup to generate about 700 million New Zealand dollars ($530 million) from 85,000 visitors, repaying some of the 1.2 billion dollars ($900 million) spent on infrastructure projects such as airports, stadium and roads.
