PERTH, Australia (AP) — Former England cricket captain Paul Collingwood will play for the Perth Scorchers in Australia's revamped Twenty20 Big Bash league next summer.
A month after being dropped from England's Twenty20 and one-day squads, Collingwood has been picked up by Perth, which has also signed South Africa's Herschelle Gibbs.
The Scorchers failed to retain star overseas recruit Chris Gayle, who is moving to the Sydney Thunder.
The 35-year-old Collingwood led England to Twenty20 World Cup victory in the West Indies last year but has fallen out of favor with his national selectors.
Scorchers coach Mickey Arthur says Collingwood is "a brilliant leader of men who helped mold his country's T20 side into an exciting and ruthless combination."
