Latest from Sports - Nottingham Test: 'We are back in the game', says Broad

Nottingham, July 31 (ANI): England pacer Stuart Broad, who took a hat-trick against India in the second Test at Trent Bridge on Saturday, said that his team is back in the game and has a slight edge over the Indian team.

In an impressive spell, Broad claimed the prize wickets of Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar.

Broad, who became the 12th England bowler to take a hat-trick in tests matches against India, talking about his team's performance said that though they dropped an important catch of Yuvraj Singh, they still managed to put pressure on the Indian batsmen and bowl them out for 288 runs.

"Obviously we dropped Yuvraj on 4, so that was a little bit of concern at one stage when Dravid and himself were playing brilliantly. So we knew that new ball period was going to be a huge session; a huge hour for us. Strauss asked us to raise our intensity in that hour to put some pressure on the Indian batsmen," he told mediapersons at the end of the second day's play on Saturday.

"Fortunately there was a little bit swing with that new ball and the edges; they came off well, so we have got ourselves back in the game," he added.

Talking about his team's strategy, Broad said that their target was to bowl India out as quickly as possible.

"We had in our mind that we needed to bowl India out as quickly as we possibly could, obviously they have got a lead on us which could prove crucial in the game. We needed to take those wickets quickly and fortunately that did happen for us," said Broad.

"Seeing Dravid caught at third man was the most popular of wickets to be honest, because it's been hard to bowl in the series so far. So yeah, I mean, obviously we've got ourselves in a decent position, but it's up to us to really build on that from now and grab the momentum and take it into our batting," he added.

England, who lead the four-match series 1-0 after winning the first Test at Lord's, are seeking a sixth straight series victory.

The underlying prize from the four-match Test series is the battle for number one status in the world rankings. Number three England need to win by at least two Tests to leapfrog South Africa and topple top-ranked India. By Praful Kumar Singh (ANI)
