Ending months of suspense, the BCCI named Graham Ford as the new coach of Indian cricket team on Saturday.However, the decision to appoint Ford has to be ratified by the BCCI working committee, which meets in New Delhi on Tuesday.The board said that Ford, who has coached South Africa, will be given a one-year contract."The seven-member Special Committee headed by BCCI President Sharad Pawar has decided to appoint for as the Indian team coach initially for one year," Board Treasurer N Srinivasan said.Ford has the backing of senior Team India players. Former India coach John Wright had suggested Ford for the top post to Rahul Dravid."Ford will intimate the BCCI before its Working Committee meeting in Delhi on June 12 as to when he would be able to join the team," Srinivasan said.Ford for his part will definitely want to get to his new post and his new colleagues as soon as he can. After all its not everyday that you land the biggest coaching job in international cricket.Earlier, Graham Ford and John Emburey, the two contenders for the post, met with the BCCI's seven-member selection committee.The selection committee was headed by BCCI president Sharad Pawar and also includes MP Pandove, Niranjan Shah, N Srinivasan, and former captains Ravi Shastri, S Venkatraghav and Sunil Gavaskar who is said to have recommended John Emburey.
