20 oversSouth Australia Redbacks 214 for 2 (Harris 108*, Ferguson 70) v Royal Challengers Bangalore
Live scorecard and ball-by-ball details
Daniel Harris could not clear the ground for 17.5 overs, but that didn't stop him from smashing the third century in Champions League history, as a dominant Australian batsman shredded an IPL side for the second time in two nights. Harris' effort, aided by another sparkling innings from Callum Ferguson left the Royal Challengers Bangalore on the verge of elimination. Their cause was aided by RCB's pathetic bowling effort, most notable S Aravind whose four wicket-less overs yielded a whopping 69 - the second most expensive spell in T20 history.
Armed with a slow pitch providing uneasy bounce, the Royal Challengers' brief would have been to deny width at any cost. Dirk Nannes started off well, taking the slowness out of the equation in a straight and fast opening over that also gave early insights into the loopy bounce on offer. From there, RCB regressed into poor habits at an alarming rate. S Aravind wasn't watching that opening over closely enough, and began with a series of slow freebies angled into the hitting zone. Harris gratefully opened up his stance and carved boundaries straight, square and fine through the off side to set the Redbacks on their way.
Virat Kohli could have snapped Harris' charge in the bud in the next over, but missed an under-arm throw from yards away, with the batsman stranded well out. Harris celebrated the reprieve in some style, smashing seven of his next eight balls for fours. He scythed Nannes through third man, before biffing him over the covers and mid-on, all for boundaries. Daniel Vettori daringly persisted with Aravind for the fourth over, only to see him persist with his mind-numbingly predictable lengths from either side of the stumps. Harris indulged himself with four more authoritative boundaries in front of square. He had charged to 43 off 19 balls by four overs, and Vettori was left playing catch-up for the remaining 16.
He brought himself and Syed Mohammad on, and the Redbacks were slow left-arm choked by the grip and turn on offer for a brief while. Michael Klinger was stumped after walking past a beauty from Syed Mohammad, and Ferguson took a while settling in, allowing the spinners to slip in 23 relatively damage-free balls. Harris eventually broke free in the 12th over, when Syed Mohammad's misfield at midwicket gave Harris his 14th boundary in 41 balls. Ferguson took over from there, capitalising twice when Syed Mohammad drifted down the leg side, before extending Aravind a violent welcome on his return spell. That over - the 16th- featured the first six of the innings to go with two fours, as the Redbacks run-rate once again climbed over nine. Ferguson then handed Nannes an even more rousing welcome, launching him over long-off for an emphatic six.
Ferguson holed out in the 18th over, and that prompted Harris to finally chance a big hit. He pounded Raju Bhatkal over midwicket for his first six, before dumping Nannes behind square-leg to bring up the century. Incredibly, things were about to get even better for the Redbacks: Aravind came on for the final over, and Daniel Christian bludgeoned him for five more fours to leave RCB praying for a super-special from Chris Gayle.
