LG’s Q4 handset results improve, to launch 5 inch LTE phablet

As LG seeks to turnaround its handset business, last quarter has brought some positives for the company. In an interview with Reuters,LG’s mobile business head Park Jong-seok stated that LG saw results improving “a lot” in the fourth quarter thanks to solid sales of its Optimus LTE model, which went on sale in early October.

“Earnings will get better this year, as we plan to raise premium phones, mainly LTE models, to more than half of our smartphone lineup,” Park added.

LG Optimus LTE features 4.5 inch 720p display, 1.5GHz dual core processor and Android 2.3. It first went on sale in South Korea and is also available in countries like Canada and United States. Company has already sold 500,000 units of the phone.

Park said that LG is betting big on LTE and will soon release a 5 inch LTE smartphone, which would also work as a tablet. This smartphone is likely to be powered by Android and will compete with the like of Galaxy Note from Samsung. We expect an announcement at Mobile World Congress.
