            hi,
i hope i can give some information.
normally you need a dv cable to get video(avi file) from the camcorder.
but for the panasonic model, we can use the usb cable provided, but it only works with the motion studio software given with the camcorder cd.
then for the panasonic model which i have, no dv cable is available with the camcorder, i have to purchase it extra if i need.
but as i told you earlier i can record video from camcorder to pc using the usb cable itself, but it works only with the software that came with the camers itself.

but all the third party software that i saw never detects my camcorder in the usb cable, all needs a dv cable....
but i think the motion studio software allows me to edit my video, add starting captions, and convert to mpeg and a lot more...
            hope i made something clear

The best way to capture picture is using fireware. You should have fireware port (IEEE 1394) in your PC and fireware cable for this.

Don't worry if you haven't got one in your PC. You can get both in one pack from pc shops like PC world, currys, commet...etc in UK for around ?17.

You have to install this card into your PC. most of them plug and play. They usually come with video editting software CD, But i won't suggest that. The best software for tvideo editing is Pinnacle Studio.

When you have both installed succesfully, Open pinnacle studio capture video, edit, make movie, write into CD/DVD...

                  watch it and share it....enjoy......
