Friends,
Those of whom, had posted images in this forum would know that the image has to be initially hosted onto some sites supporting image linking of their site to other places like forum/emails/message boards etc.
For those who have'nt done it, here my little help.
How and what all can be uploaded to these sites ?
How best can we utilize the features presented there?
I'll try explaining this using the features of a site that i have some personal experience - photobucket
which is a free image hosting site.
NB: Several other such file hosting sites like Flickr, KODAK Gallery, Shutterfly, Snapfish also provide more or less the same features mentioned in this site.
So, lets begin:
Hosting images.
1. To host/upload an image/mov, one needs to first have an login account.(its free)

2. Once done with login, the next job is to upload the images. The login page appears like this

3. Layout of the first page.
3.a. In the above image, it shows the default section is "albums & upload". In this section one can upload images/videos from different sources to the hosting site.
Other sections also seen are:
Create sideshow - helps you in creating slide show of the images that have been uploaded.
Create remix - A feature provided by Adobe premiere Express for remixing of images/videos.
Create avatar - helps you to create your own customized 3D-avatars, a collaboration with meez.
Share album - allows you to share your album with friends.
Buy prints - a feature in collaboration with "Qoop" where one can buy images as printouts on paper,T-shirts,Mugs etc for a price.
NB: Features other than "Albums & upload" wont be elaborated in this thread.
3.b. In the default section, you can see that the current album: displays your username (this will be your parent album). One can upload an image in this parent album itself or can create sub albums and upload there.
Here we have a sub album by the name "blog4nimhans".
4. Uploading.
4.a. This section has four subsection as to how/from where you would like to upload images/video.
4.b. Default upload option is "images from my PC". Other options being:
Video - upload videos from ur PC.
web url - transfer images from a website containing image to this site.
mobile phone - upload images directly from your mobile phone to the photobucket via photobucket album email id.
(these otpions wont be covered here in the current topic)
4.c. Whatever be the image size, the uploaded image can be restrained to some fixed sizes (default size is of message board). The size can be edited by clicking (options) link.
4.d. Click on the browser button and select the images to be uploaded. One has an option to give some tilte to the image once it is selected. One can upload 20 files at a time (default is three) by clicking "add more".
5. Once the uploading is done (speed depends upon the actual connection speed you r having), the images will appear below the upload section itself. each uploaded image will appear like this:

5.a. Under each image you will find a series of codes:
Email & IM - you share the URL
Direct link - for Layout Pages
HTML tag - for Websites & Blogs
IMG code - for Forums & Bulletin Boards
Of the four coded links, the last code "IMG code", is the one required in our forum. Click on the "IMG code" and you will observe the code sequence gets higlighted with blue background colour. this means the code is copied and can be pasted at the place where its required in the text body.(the image will be kept within the [img].....[/img] code by default)
6. For multiple image selection, there are two ways available:
6.a. Copy and paste each of the image's IMG code individually and paste them in the board.
6.b. Select the images (clicking on the check box) and then use the "Generate HTML and IMG code" button at the bottom.

6.b.i. On click- codes catering for various sites will be generated:

From among the codes "IMG images for message boards" is best suited for its use in this forum. On clicking the heading, the entire image codes will be copied (blue background highlighting) , to be pasted in the body of the text.
However those of whom who would like to post several images in the same post, then another alternative provided by this site can be put to use as follows:
Posting clickable thumbnail images:
This helps one to post thumb nail images in the main body of the post, which can be clicked to open a new window showing the enlarged image(actual size).
This is how it can be done:
After going through the steps mentioned above, on reaching the step 6.b, the generated HTML and IMG code displays like this:

You can notice that above the "IMG images for message boards" code is located "IMG clickable thumbnails for message boards - recommended". click on the title and codes are copied to be pasted in the message boards at your designated place.
eg. the thumbnail view of the above image itself (click on the image to view the large/actual size of the image in a new window).

Advantages of this feature:
1. This type of image hosting will save lots of time in loading of the pages, as the load page size will be small as compared to the loading of the large/actual size images.
2. When multiple images are posted in the same thread, a smaller image presence will improve upon the aesthetic look of the page.
3.More so, the viewer has the choice of seeing which ever image he/she prefers to view in enlarged form.(saves a lot of time and also saves money on unnecessary download bandwidth usages as in cases of certain dial up connections and also certain broadband connections.)
Hope this small tutorial would have cleared some of the queries that you might have had
.
Thank you
