Hi friends,
You might have faced this problem when you tried to attach certain file types with file extensions like .zip, .rar, .exe(always restricted) and others, from your mail id to be sent across to your friends.
This is mainly restricted to prevent harmful files reaching ignorant mail users.
So, now if you or your friend really wants those files, how to send?
The solution:
Well its more or less in a way how certain malicious files are sent across to you about which i have already discussed in the previous thread "Protecting your comp from hidden malicious file attack"
I will tell you how to reverse engineer this method for your good.
Step 1. Well to do this one should first make file extensions to be made visible. How?......read on...
Step 2. Open My Computer or any Folder, then from the menu bar select Tool and click "Folder Options". In the folder options window, go to "View" tab and there in Advanced settings, uncheck "Hide extensions of known file types" check box and come out clicking Ok button.
NB: For graphical help on the above step plz click on the link "Protecting your comp from hidden malicious file attack"
Step 3. Now you will see files with their extensions like for Ex. "abcd.exe"
Step 4. Now select the file which you need to send via e-mail or other restricted sites, click F2 (key board) or right click on mouse and select rename.
Step 5. The selected file with its extension is highlighted. Go to the end of the file name and change the extensions of the file to any known file extensions like .doc, .pdf, .txt, .jpeg, .html, .mht etc. (any extension which the mails will allow you to send). My fav extensions are .pdf, .txt and .html
Example.
abcd.exe after renaming to abcd.exe.txt
Step 6. A dialog box will appear, click yes button.

The exe file will now change its iconic image with respect to the file extension given.
Step 7. Attach this edited file to your friend via those restricted mails and once at the other end, he/she needs to do the initial steps 1-4 and in step 5, delete the last extension(which you had given), click yes in the dialog box and Presto you get the original file back.
Hope this information has been useful to you.
