And off late, a new kind of trouble thats making round; where suddenly your system hangs because your processor/CPU is running @ 100%. More so, when you try to recall task manager, it displays its been disabled by your administrator. It remains so and does not stops untill u shut down your system. Worms use the feature of WinXP that "Autoplays" the Disk using the autorun.inf file (and displays the various choices available) inserted media such as CDs/DVDs or USB drives that are connected to the computer. This is all that is needed to trigger the worm and it infects the system in question and the rest well.......
Here is how you can disable this feature in XP:
Goto Start> Run> Type "gpedit.msc" (without the quotes of course)

This is for the Group Window Editor
There you can select Administrative Templates > System > In the Right Panel you will see the option "Turn Off Autoplay" (as shown in the picture)

Right Click> Select Properties > Choose Enable for "All Drives"-

Done
now autoplay will be turned off for all drives including CDs/ DVDs and USBs.
Who all requires this service disabled?
I hope that helped you better understand how to disable the "autoplay" feature in WinXP , if you have any doubts, comments or additions to make please do so

- usually all of us should/will need to disable this autoplay feature, since now in the age of USB pen-drives; propagation of these worms are much rampant. Even system isolated from the net are not spared.
- It is likely to affect those computer users who use lots of downloading from various file sharing sites.
