    Apple announces iOS 5

Just as promised, Apple unveiled iOS 5 today at the keynote address for the company's 2011 Worldwide Developer's Conference. Though CEO Steve Jobs opened the event, Scott Forstall, Apple's SVP of iOS showed off 10 of the promised 200 new features for the company's mobile devices.

Forstall started by announcing a revamp of notifications. Instead of the current system of pop-up menus, badge icons, and sounds, a new new "Notification Center" will serve as a single place that combines all your notifications. You can access it from any screen by swiping your finger downwards. Once you're finished reading the notifications, you can clear them by hitting the "x" button on the list.

Newsstand brings together magazine subscriptions into a central place. The concept is similar iBooks, even down to the bookshelf app icon. Also, as buy an item, new issues will be delivered in the background eliminating the need to manually grab it.

Next up, users now will be upload post photos to Twitter without leaving the image gallery or camera application. It's a welcome change given that it will end the need to take a photo, switch to Twitter and then choose a photo posting service. Also, you'll able to tweet directly from YouTube, Safari, Maps and the app will be integrated with your contacts list.

More to come so stay tuned!
