Samsung has yanked its Galaxy Tab 7.7tablet from the show floor at the IFA consumer-electronics confab in Berlin, in a move that could be related to an injunction granted to Apple that prohibits the sale of a related Samsung tablet in Germany.
Blog Foss Patents reported the news earlier today and offered up a pair of explanations for the sudden removal of the 7.7 device, which had been on display yesterday bearing a sticker that read "Not for sale in Germany."
Apple might have gotten a new temporary injunction applicable to the 7.7, the Foss Patents story said, or it might have claimed enough similarity between the Galaxy Tab 7.7 and the temporarily banned Galaxy Tab 10.1 to warrant a court-ordered fine on Samsung for contempt of the 10.1 injunction.
Apple was granted the preliminary injunction on sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 last month by a court in Dusseldorf. The ban originally applied to nearly all European Union countries, but the court later limited the injunction's scope to just Germany, saying it had no jurisdiction over other nations.
Apple claims Samsung ripped off technology and design details from theiPad in developing the Galaxy Tab (which Samsung denies), and the two companies have been engaged in a sue-me, sue-you struggle.
Foss Patents also reported that Samsung had removed the Galaxy Tab 7.7 from its German Web site. And blog This Is My Next posted before-and-after photos showing that Samsung had apparently scraped 7.7-related decals from its IFA booth.
