Washington: The US Navy Wednesday has dispatched three warships to the Mediterranean Sea to carry out military mission in Libya, Xinhua reported.

Two of the ships left the port of Norfolk, Virginia, Wednesday. They include helicopter-carrying amphibious assault ship USS Bataan and the amphibious transport dock ship USS Mesa Verde. They will be joined by dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island at the Joint Expeditionary Base, Little Creek.

The ships will relieve the units from the USS Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group currently deployed in the Mediterranean.

The ships are carrying soldiers, a team of surgeons and a helicopter sea combat squadron.
