Erring labor supply agents to lose licenses

JEDDAH: Saudi embassies will cancel licenses issued to foreign labor recruitment agencies that fail to fulfill contractual obligations to Saudi recruitment agencies, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported on Monday quoting chamber of commerce officials.

A labor supply license will be canceled on the basis of the recommendations of the recruitment authorities in the Kingdom, the paper said.

“When any foreign labor supply agency exceeds its limits in committing violations, the Saudi Embassy in that country would be asked to withdraw the agent’s license card,” said chairman of the recruitment committee at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yahya Al-Maqboul, who is also a member of the National Recruitment Committee (NRC), a subsidiary of the Council for Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The NRC, the body that oversees foreign recruitment to the Kingdom, urged in a circular issued to all Saudi recruitment agencies that they report to it any failure or violation by foreign recruitment agencies to fulfill their contractual obligations. “The Saudi agencies should supply the names of the defaulting foreign agencies so that they could be blacklisted and their names could be supplied to other Saudi agencies,” the NRC warning said.

The NRC will then pass the names of the defaulting foreign agencies to the Saudi embassies concerned, with the instruction to withdraw the labor supply license cards issued to them. However, the Saudi agencies, whose contracts are broken by a foreign agency, will have to supply the proof to establish the claim before clamping penal measures against the agency.

The Saudi agent will also have to supply the names of defaulting agencies in each country separately before July 1. Apart from the name, he should also supply license and telephone numbers of a violating foreign agency in addition to the name of the owner and the city where the violator operated.

Al-Maqboul said the NRC regularly issues warnings about foreign agencies that fail to fulfill their contractual obligations.
