Klitschko celebrates after a convicing victory in Germany
Wladimir Klitschko beat British fighter David Haye on points to win their world title decider in Hamburg. The 35-year-old Ukrainian dominated the bout and was given a unanimous decision by the judges.
Haye, the WBA title-holder, was worn down by the IBF and WBO champion in the unification contest.
Judges scored the fight 117-109, 118-108 and 116-110 in Klitschko's favour, while Haye said he broke his toe in training three weeks ago.
The 30-year-old, who has previously stated his desire to retire before his 31st birthday in October, was suffering only the second defeat in the 26th fight of his career.
At the rain-drenched Imtech Arena football stadium, Haye failed to live up to his aggressive pre-fight bravado, but insisted his defensive tactics were enforced by injury.
"I might not have been at my best but I gave it as much as I could," he said.
"I couldn't push on my right leg. Something happened in training and I didn't want to pull out.
