World News - Two NI women murdered in Turkey

19 August 2011 Last updated at 07:42 ET Two women from Northern Ireland have been murdered in Turkey.

It is understood the women were stabbed on Thursday night. They were found in a forest just outside the port city of Izmir, on the country's west coast.

Their names have not been released but it is understood they were middle-aged and from south County Down.

A 17-year-old Turkish boy, understood to be the boyfriend of a daughter of one of the women, has been arrested and has apparently confessed to the attack.

The daughter, who is also in her teens, is believed to have been on a boat trip when the killings happened.

The women were travelling on Irish passports and the Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the families.
