435 Indian students of sham Tri-Valley Varsity get transfers

The ordeal of the nearly 1,500 Indian students who made a beeline to California’s sham Tri-Valley University last year is far from over.

The US immigration authorities have finally approved the transfer of 435 of the affected Indian students to other American universities. But they have denied transfer requests from 145 students and issued “Notices of Intention to Deny” (NOIDs) to an almost equal number of students. And the remaining cases are still under examination.

Details of the action were given out by officials of the Department of Homeland Security, Department of State, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) at a meeting with representatives of the Indian Embassy here on Friday.

The cases of the affected students have been examined individually after evaluating all the information provided by them, the US officials told the embassy representatives. Students who have been served NOIDs have been asked to reply to the notices in stipulated time with requisite information and documents.

The dubious Tri-Valley was shut down in January this year. Its founder Susan Xiao-Ping Su was arrested and charged with running an immigration fraud, netting millions of dollars from foreign nationals, mostly Indian students, almost all of whom were from Andhra Pradesh.
