JEDDAH: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has invited the family of Farman Ali Khan, a Pakistani martial arts champion who drowned while saving people during the Jeddah floods of November 2009, to perform Haj, a senior official said.
“King Abdullah has instructed to host the family of martyr Farman Ali Khan to perform Haj as guests of King Abdullah,” said Abdullah Al-Mudlaj, executive director of the Program for King Abdullah’s Guests.
He said the king’s order to award Farman the King Abdul Aziz Medal of the First Order posthumously and host his family to perform Haj was issued to honor the martyr and his family in appreciation of his heroic act. Khan had saved 14 Saudis during the Jeddah floods.
“We have completed all preparations to receive the royal guests to perform Haj. We are awaiting arrival of the first batch and we have arranged for their visits to the Prophet’s Mosque, King Fahd Qur’an Printing Complex and Kaaba Cover Factory,” said Al-Mudlaj.
Farman’s relatives and friends in Jeddah have thanked King Abdullah and the Saudi government for the big honor. “It’s an honor for all Pakistanis living in the Kingdom,” said Asghar Khan, his uncle.
Farman, who married seven years ago, is survived by his wife and three daughters — Zubaida, Madeeha and Juwairiya.
Last March, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari conferred a gallantry medal posthumously on Farman and his wife received the award during a ceremony at the President’s House in Islamabad on the occasion of the Pakistan National Day. The Pakistan government also gave his family a piece of land in Islamabad and 500,000 rupees.
