Prices of IDB sacrificial vouchers up by SR20

JEDDAH: The Saudi Project for the Utilization of Haj Meat managed by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has announced the availability of its annual Adahi sacrificial vouchers for purchase online.

It will cost SR430, a price increase of SR20 compared to last year due to global market conditions, an official at the bank said.

“The price increases this year are in line with global market price rises of livestock that are imported to the Kingdom from abroad,” an official source who did not want to be identified told Arab News.

“The prices of vouchers for cows and cattle have yet to be set and are still to be determined according to market mechanisms at the time of purchase,” the bank said in a recent statement. The main objective of the program, currently in its 27th year, is to distribute sacrificial meat to the needy in Makkah and around the globe.

Speaking at a preparatory meeting for the project held with representatives of embassies and consulates in charge of Haj affairs at the IDB headquarters in Jeddah last month, the bank’s president Ahmad Muhammad Ali said to date Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has spent SR1 billion on automated slaughterhouses and modern equipment for the charity project. “We are greatly pleased with this project as it has enabled pilgrims to perform the sacrificial rite with ease and to be able to focus on other Haj rites,” Ali said.

The vouchers can also be purchased using the Sadad payment service, telephone banking, ATM, credit card or wire transfer. They are available at branches of Al-Rajhi Bank, Al-Amoudi Exchange, Saudi Post offices and Hajji and Mu'tamer Gift Charity.

The online service can also accept charity or sadaqa donations from around the globe and can be accessed by logging onto مشروع المملكة العربية السعودية للإفادة من الهدي و الأضاحي.

Last year, the project, according to data from IDB, posted record Haj meat utilization of 934,000 livestock animals later distributed to the needy inside the Kingdom as well as 27 other countries.

Each year, the IDB recruits around 40,000 butchers, laborers, veterinarians, Shariah supervisors and administrators to carry out the project.
