Haia member killed by juvenile delinquent laid to rest

ABHA: Sheikh Ali Abdullah Al-Ahmari, member of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) who was shot dead by a juvenile, was laid to rest Monday in Al-Sharaf area in Asir province. Haia chairman Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Humain led the funeral prayer held at Al-Rajhi Mosque.

According to spokesman of Asir police Maj. Abdullah bin Shaathan, Al-Ahmari, who was in charge of supervising the markets, accompanied a 25-year-old security man to bring the juvenile from Sabya in Jazan province to Ahhad Rafidah in Asir. He was shot dead on the way by the juvenile.

He said the young boy was wanted for cases of disobeying parents and other ethical charges. He was arrested in Jazan while he was in the company of a man who was harboring him.

The spokesman said the juvenile, while being transported handcuffed, shot the security man in the head. When Al-Ahmari asked the driver to stop and came down to help the injured policeman, the juvenile shot him in the head.

The spokesman said the young criminal requested the driver under gunpoint to unchain him and his companion and to drive toward a valley in the area, where he disappeared. He is still at large.

The spokesman said the security man was in critical condition in the hospital.

Al-Ahmari was 53 years. He leaves behind five children, three boys and two girls.
