A deal is on the table and it can be done. But it is a formidably difficult negotiation, I can't say exactly when it will conclude, he said./p#13; div class=story-feature narrow#13; a class=hidden href=#story_continues_2Continue reading the main story/a h2 class=quote“spanStart Quote/span/h2#13;blockquote readability=1p class=first-childThis is a very difficult negotiation but it's fundamental to international peace”/p/blockquote#13;span class=endquoteEnd Quote/span#13; span class=quote-creditWilliam Hague/span#13; span class=quote-credit-titleForeign Secretary/span#13;#13; /div p id=story_continues_2Asked why the negotiations had apparently stalled, Mr Hague said there were still some gaps between Iran and other leading members of the international community, including the US, UK and Russia. /p#13; pHe said: They are narrow gaps. You asked what went wrong, I would say that a great deal went right. /p#13; pThis is a very difficult negotiation but it's fundamental to international peace and security over the next few years so we have to persist./p#13; pUnder the deal floated in Geneva, Iran could freeze expansion of its nuclear activity in return for limited relief from international sanctions which have been in place for years. /p#13; pIran has said all sides can build on the dialogue in Geneva and there was the impetus to reach an agreement./p#13; div class=story-feature wide readability=6#13; a class=hidden href=#story_continues_3Continue reading the main story/a h2Analysis/h2#13; !-- pullout-items--#13; #13; !-- pullout-body--#13; pIt was striking to see the respective chief negotiators Mohmamad Javad Zarif and Lady Ashton walk in together to deliver a joint final statement. They appeared to be relaxed in each other's company. /p#13; pBut it's also clear that they have not reached a deal. Serious differences clearly remain. The two negotiators wouldn't reveal what those differences were. Instead they agreed to meet again./p#13; pThese three days of talks were the most intensive negotiations about Iran's nuclear programme for many years. It's worth noting in particular the fact that the US Secretary of State John Kerry took part in more than eight hours of direct talks with his Iranian counterpart. /p#13; pThis marked the most extensive high-level contact between the US and Iran since the 1979 Islamic revolution. That, in itself, counts as something of a breakthrough./p#13; #13; !-- pullout-links--#13; /div p id=story_continues_3But Israel has criticised the alleged offer put to Tehran as dangerous and said it would press the US and other world powers to avoid a bad deal./p#13; pBut Mr Hague said the members of the UN Security Council were clearly united and it was clear the parties were closer together now than before the three days of talks./p#13; pWe were all saying the same thing to Iran and supporting the same deal and that is something for the Iranians to think carefully about, he added./p#13; pMeanwhile, a member of Jordan's ruling family has said there is the potential for a really serious breakthrough at the next scheduled talks on 20 November./p#13; pPrince Hassan Bin Talal told the Dermot Murnaghan show on Sky News there were many enemies who stood in the way of a possible agreement but a resolution would have major implications for the security of the region. /p#13; pI think this is the first step towards a regional architecture for a conference on security and co-operation, he said. /p#13; pSeparately, Mr Hague said it would be wrong for the UK to join a boycott of the forthcoming Commonwealth summit in Sri Lanka, saying he could more effectively challenge the country about its human rights record by attending./p#13; pAnd he also reiterated the UK's view that recent revelations about alleged mass surveillance by US security agencies - among information leaked by former CIA contractor Edward Snowden - had damaged the UK's national security./p#13; pBy speculating about our capabilities, it makes it easier for those who are seeking to damage our country and kill people, it makes easier for them to evade interception and that it something which is very serious and very damaging./p#13; /div/divbrbrcentera href=http://www.wizardrss.comPowered By WizardRSS.com/a | a href=http://www.wizardrss.comFull Text RSS Feed/a | a href=http://www.amazon.com/RFID-Blocking-Cards-Identity-Protector/dp/B00CJHZLEWRFID/a | a href=http://www.wpzonbuilder.comAmazon Affiliate/a/center
