    Diabetes in children

U know friends, about 20% of our population in India are Diabetic and almost 5% of that are children's. Every 1 out of 5 are Diabetic. Diabetes is an autoimmune disease that occurs when pancreas does not make adequate insulin and thus body does not metabolize blood glucose to use it efficiently for energy. This may happen due to hortatory, mental stress or even because of our new life style.

Children with diabetes are at risk for long term complications, such as damage to heart, kidneys, eyes, nerves, blood vessels, gums and teeth

    SYMPTOMS
The disease develops over a short period of time. Other than excessive thirst, hunger, urination, weight loss, blurred vision, children may feel very tired.

    PROBLEM IN MOUTH
People with diabetes are at risk for mouth infection, especially gum disease. This can damage the gum and bone, and may lead to painful chewing problems. Some people with serious gum disease lose their teeth. Periodontal disease may also make it hard to control your blood sugar level.

SELF MONITORING - A KEY TO DIABETES CONTROL
Self monitoring of blood sugar levels is an important tool for people with diabetes to ensure their treatment is working to keep their blood sugar levels in the safe zone.
