Protect your eyes from summer dust

The heat and grime in summer season can spell trouble for your eyes, making them prone to many eye infections.

Bacteria, virus and allergens thrive in the summer heat and your eyes can fall prey to these easily.

?Infective conjunctivitis is caused either by virus or bacteria. There are other types of eye infections including sty where the root of the eyelash gets infected and sometimes there is an inflammation in the lid of the eye,? says ophthalmology, Max HealthCare, Dr Ritu Aurora.

And if you are suffering from one of these seasonal eye-infections, do consult a doctor because if left untreated, infections, especially conjunctivitis can lead to serious problems, like harming the cornea.

?Viral infection is a self-emitting disorder. It will be cured in a week or 10 days time. But at times it can affect the cornea that may affect the vision so consulting a doctor is essential and medication is advisable,? says Dr Aurora.

Infection may be rampant during these months but some common sense tips can help you keep your eyes sparkling with health:
    • Keeping your hands clean will go a long way in keeping eye infections at bay. Make sure to scrub your hands clean if you have come in contact with an infected person.
    • Sunglasses are not just a style statement, they can also help prevent conjunctivitis and allergies caused by smoke or fumes.
    • Women shouldn?t share their eye make up. Eye cosmetics should be thrown away after six months of use.

one more tip from me -
Wash them thoroughly with cold water four to five times a day and specially at night. You may also put some properly filtered rose water in your eyes before going to bed.
