Evict encroachments at Parvatimala: Central team
Munnaar: The four-member central team, which is in Munnar to evaluate violations of forest protection act, on Sunday visited Parvatimala and Seven Hills. The team had wound up their investigations and is now in Munnaar to probe if there had been any violation of forest protection acts.. Some of the dwellings at Parvatimala came under the observation of the team and directed the revenue officials to vacate all of them. Earlier, they examined the govt documents and found some discrepancies in it. The central found that the alienated land were changed to revenue land and encroached upon. Later, they held discussions with the Idukki district collector.
The team appointed by the union forest and environment ministry is headed by Subhakar Reddy, head of the Bangalore wing of the ministry. It is expected that the team will hold discussions with Forest Department officials and Forest Minister Benoy Viswom in Thiruvananthapuram.
