    Court acquits all accused in Marad Younis case

    Kozhikode: The Marad Special court on Monday acquitted all the 12 accused in Younis case in connection with the first Marad riots. The case came up for hearing on March 31 and the pronouncement of verdict was postponed to April 12. The case is the first of which the trial began among the murder cases during the first Marad issue .

    The incident happened on 3rd January 2002. As per the prosecution, Younis was attacked with an iron rod while he was rushing to the spot where a boat was set on fire. The trial began in the special court on November 2009. The accused who were acquitted are Thekkethodi Veettil Praju, 27, Thekkethodi Veettil Muthu (Kailas), 32, Choyichantakathu Kishore, 35, Kannante Purayil Sivadasan, 52, Arayachantakathu Veettil, Prahladan, 31, Arayachantakathu Veettil Prasanth, 31, Keleppantakathu Veettil Devan, 47, Thekkethodi Veetil Kalesh (Krishnakumar), 29, Arayachantakathu Veettil Ambu (Swaroop), 27, Korantekathu Veettil Vipeesh, 35 and Arayachantekathu Veettil Rajan, 42. All belong to Marad.
