    Protests against Modi, Tharoor

    Protests against Modi, Tharoor

Thiruvananthapuram : Youth Congress activists today staged a demonstration in front of the state secretariat and burned the effigy of IPL Commissioner Lalit K Modi, expressing solidarity with Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor in the controversy over the franchises of Kochi IPL team. They protested in front of the state secretariat charging that Mr Modi was trying to sabotage the new Kerala IPL team for next season.

Meanwhile, pro-BJP ''youva morcha'' activists marched to the Secretariat demanding the resignation of Mr Tharoor from the Union Cabinet. They burned his effigy also.

The Congress leadership in the state was protecting the Minister, who was elected from here, they alleged.

Reacting to the BJP's demand for the resignation of Mr Tharoor, KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala said it was not for the BJP to deicide whether the minister should resign or not. The Congress high command had already made the party's stand in this regard. The Kerala unit was also supporting the high command's views.

He said it was the IPL Governing council which would solve the issue.

Meanwhile, CPI(M) politburo member S Ramachandran Pillai told reporters in Delhi that the Minister should resign and face an inquiry to prove his innocence in the issue.
