US to continue Toyota probe
Washington: In spite of Toyota agreeing to pay a hefty fine of USD 16.375 million, the US today said it will continue with its investigations against the Japanese car major that had to recalls hundreds of thousands of defective motor vehicles in the past few months. 'I am pleased that Toyota has accepted responsibility for violating its legal obligations to report any defects promptly. We are continuing to investigate whether the company has lived up to all its disclosure obligations,' the US transportation secretary Ray LaHood said.
Earlier, Toyota Motor Corporation agreed to pay a USD 16.375 million in fines--the largest fine permitted by law-- for failing to notify the national highway traffic safety administration of a dangerous pedal defect for almost four months.
