Mafta row: DPI orders school to readmit girl
Alappuzha: The DPI has issued an order to readmit the student who was ousted for wearing maftha to school. The order was issued as per the report of assistant director Balakrishanan. Nabeela, the Muslim girl, was issued a transfer certificate from the Believers' Church English Medium School, Gurupuram, because she wore a headscarf (maftha) to school. On Wednesday, DDE took the statement of school officials and her parents. A direction has been issued to readmit the student and if they fail so the NOC of the school would be withdrawn. Meantime, following media reports, the State Human Rights Commission swung into action and ordered an inquiry.
The commission registered a case and ordered the Principal Secretary, General Education, to conduct an inquiry into the incident and submit a report.
