Nalini claims her life is under threat in jail, govt orders probe
Days after she complained of being harassed by officials at the high-security Vellore prison, Rajiv Gandhi assassination case life convict Nalini Sriharan has alleged that her life is under threat and claimed of being assaulted by jail authorities. Reacting to the complaint, the Tamil Nadu government has said a committee will probe Nalini's allegations and a report will be submitted in two days.
In recent letters to ADGP Prisons K R Shyamsundar, Nalini alleged that attempts were being made to poison her food and that she was also being assaulted.
In separate letters to him, she also alleged that her cell had not been cleaned for days and expressed fears of officials 'planting' something there to recover it, apparently hinting at the recovery of a mobile phone from her cell last month.
On May 10, the government had informed the state assembly that she had made calls to foreign countries from the mobile, including to Sri Lanka and Britain.
The Madras High Court had recently rejected her application for premature release. PTI
