Night traffic ban: Karnataka may favour convoy travel
Bangalore: Karnataka chief minister B S Yedyurappa said that the state may take a favorable decision on the proposal for convoy travel of vehicles during night in the national highway in the wake of the night traffic ban. He informed the matter to representatives of Karnataka-Kerala Travellers Forum (KKTF) who went to give a petition for the same. Earlier while considering the petition filed by Kerala against night traffic ban, the Supreme Court had asked both states to think about the possibility of convoy-like travel duirng night. If Karnataka agrees to the same it would be a solace to the long pending travel problems.
The representation KKTF also said that the renovation of parallel road through Gonikuppa and Kutta has not started yet. Most of the buses to Kozhikode and Kannur use the parallel road and owing to the bad state of roads many buses have stopped service.
KKTF has also forwarded a proposal for a parallel road, fully avoiding the forest area, through Mysore Manathavadi route from Andarasendha to Korapuar, Jekkalli, Bairanakuppa via Bavali. If this road comes into force that will be a permanent solace. It is the Karnataka forest department which is posing hurdles for sanctioning the convoy travel. It is learnt that only if the Centre and Kerala pressurises, Karantaka will take a favorable stand.
