3-year-old girl trapped in borewell dies
BATALA, Punjab: Body of a 3-year-old girl, who fell into a borewell at Dheera village in Gurdaspur district, was taken out by the army and administration rescuers here on Thursday. Dinnaj Kaur, a resident of Dairywal village, was rushed to the Civil hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead.
'She had died much earlier,' hospital's senior medical officer Mohinder Singh said.
Kaur, who had come to her maternal grandparent's residence in Dheera village, accidentally slipped into the 180-feet-deep borewell on Wednesday while playing near the spot and got stuck at a depth of about 30 feet.
The owner of the borewell had covered it with a gunny bag after its electric motor stopped functioning a few days back.
The district administration assisted by the army had on Wednesday launched a rescue operation to pull out the girl.
