Cyclone Phet Causes Landslides in Oman
Bloomberg:Tropical cyclone Phet hit Oman, causing landslides and floods in the eastern part of the country, before losing intensity and heading toward Pakistan, the Oman News Agency said. Army forces deployed in the region as civil defense rescued three people from an area engulfed by floods in Wadi Sal valley in the Jaalan Bani Bou Ali district, the agency said, citing an unidentified civil defense official.
There were no casualties, he said. The cyclone has lost intensity since landfall in Oman during the night, and rain will continue to fall in the area for the next 48 hours, according to the official. The civil defense has renewed calls on fishermen not to approach the coast and appealed to residents not to travel into valleys in the region.
The cyclone, with winds that reached 120 kilometers (75 miles) per hour, will pursue its course through the province of Sour over the next few hours before moving northeast toward the Pakistani coast, the national meteorological department said in a statement on the state news agency.
