Counselling centre employees charged with rape attempt

Palakkad : Two employees of an orphanage-cum-counselling centre at Agali in the district have been charged with attempted rape and harassment of five girl inmates, following a complaint filed by them, police said today. The girls, all from Ernakulam district, were staying at the 'Abhaya Kendram' for the last two to three months to cure
depression. They had fled the centre on Friday last and were found at Olavakkode railway station the next day.

Police took them to the centre for investigation. They were sent them back to their parents

Kerala Social Welfare Board chairperson Girija Surendran, who visited the centre, told reporters that a report would be
submitted to Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan after a detailed probe into the complaint.

Meanwhile, pro-CPI(M) student outfit SFI today took out a march to the district collectorate here, demanding immediate
closure of the centre. It alleged that the centre was being run without a licence. PTI
