74 coastal vigil committees to be constituted
Thiruvananthapuram: To support the coastal police wing alloted by the centre, the state will constitute 74 coastal vigil committees, said home minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Among the total eight police stations, four began functioning at Neendkara, Azheekode, Vizhinjam, Beypore. In Fort Kochi and Kasargod it will start soon and in Kannur and Alappuzha the stations will function within three months. He said that Rs 24.07 lakh were alloted for setting up each stations.
He said the state will make a demand to allot ten more such police stations. Need of the hour is a joint effort from the Navy, Coast Guard and Kerala police. He said security patrolling is being held each day.
