    Recommendation to appoint CPI leader as RTI commissioner erupts controversy





    Thiruvananthapuram: The recommendation to appoint a CPI leader as the RTI commissioner of the state is triggering a controversy. As per the a condition of RTI act 2005, a person holding a an official post in a political party should not be appointed as the commissioner of RTI. The recommendation is against he guideline. Sony B Thengamam and M N Gunavardhanan were recommended to the two vacant post. The recommendation was given by a committee comprising chief minister V S Achuthanandan, opposition leader Oommen Chandy and home minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Among the two Sony is the Kollam district assistant secretary of CPI and state council member. Gunavardhanan, a retired IAS officer was the nationals secretary of AIYF. The governor has to issue an order recognizing the recommendations. The commissioner will get remuneration packages and services as equal to state chief secretery
