Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday granted more time to the state government to evict land encroachments in Wayanad. The HC also directed eviction of the encroachments by August 31. The HC had granted more time as the state government had applied for the same.
The HC flayed the act of peoples' representatives who blocked and threatened officials who had come for the eviction drive. Division bench presided by Justice K N Joseph examined the video footages of the encroachments and actions taken against it.
Earlier, the government had approached the Supreme Court pleading implementation of HC order would be difficult, but the SC directed to comply with the HC order. The SC also made it clear that the governmnet can approach the HC if they need more time for eviction. Advocate general C P Sudhakaraprasad presented the government.
