Payyoli: A bike rider was killed near Ayyanikkad church while being chased by police for not stopping his vehicle. The deceased is Shamsudhin, 29 , son of Moithuhaji Memunda.
The incident happened at 7 pm on Wednesday. Locals blocked the road alleging the chase by the police led to the accident. It is reported that police had indicated to the bike rider to stop the vehicle near Pazhaya panchayat. The bike fled and hit an `imperial' bus to Kozhikode.
Shamsudhin succumbed to his injuries on being rushed to the Koyilandi hospital. Shamsudhin was brought to the hospital by the Payyoli police. Natives were infuriated when the police quickly removed the bus and bike from the accident spot. The policemen also were not present on the spot.
The natives blockaded the road demanding action against the responsible policemen. Though police reached the spot after a long time, led by Payyoli circle inspector V P Surendran, the mob was not ready to disperse. The traffic was blocked for nearly one-and-a -half hours. When the CI ensured a probe, the locals moved back. But police denied allegation that they had chased the bike.
