Students protest in Kilthana, Lakshadweep over appointment of teachers

Kavaratti: Police fired in the air to disperse protestors who were holding a strike to appoint teachers for Plus 2 schools at Kilthana island in Lakshadweep. Students and parents were up in arms against not appointing teachers for Plus 2 courses. Tension has been prevailing for over 2 weeks

Following police firing in the air, agitated students and parents ghearaoed the office of the Education department's sub division office. The four schools were ordered to be closed down after the attack. Local people allege that the school functions every year months after the academic session begins and the pass percentage of the school is only 20 percent. During an academic year, there was no teacher to teach chemistry. Hence none had cleared the chemistry exams.
