    BPCL sets up bunkering facility at Kochi

    The Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.Wednesday launched its international bunkering facility at Cochin port. Sources said this would enable BPCL to offer international bunkering of furnace oil to vessels at competitive rates in Kochi. Stefan Herde, Managing Director of the Matrix Bharat Marine Services Pvt Ltd, Singapore, Mr N Ramachandran, Chairman of Cochin Port Trust, and D M Reddy of BPCL inaugurated the facility. To establish a pan Indian footprint, BPCL is also planning to take similar initiatives at all other major ports in the country. The company will also commission a dedicated barge loading jetty at its Irumpanam Installation soon to cater to vessels in Kochi.

    BPCL has partnered with Mabanaft Gmbh & Co - pioneers in international bunkering - having their presence worldwide through a joint venture company Matrix Bharat Marine Services Pte Ltd.

    This will also benefit the port and international vessels calling at the Kochi port and the upcoming Vallarpadam container terminal.

    The traffic at the port is bound to grow exponentially resulting in significant bunker volumes in view of the of the port's geo strategic advantages of close proximity to international shipping routes as well as the up-coming mega projects, a press release said.
