Kozhikode: The Medical College police held a doctor who did not cooperate to collect death statement of a woman who suffered burn injuries. The doctor was arrested as per the order of judicial first class magistrate. Dr Habeeb Muhammad of the general surgery section was held and later released on bail. Magistrate P T Prakash asked him to be present before the court on July 26 and give an explanation.
The magistrate reached the medical college on Saturday evening to collect the death statement of Subeena, 32, from Kottoli who was admitted with 75 per cent burn injuries. She is in a critical condition. A doctor's presence is needed to collect a statement. The magistrate who reached the ward at 6.20 pm waited there for 10 minutes. The magistrate asked in writing for Habeeb to be present in the ward as the duty doctor was absent. Police was not able to find him when they went with the magistrate order. As they were not able to find him till 6.55 pm, the magistrate asked the police to arrest him. By 7.10 pm the medical college police held him.
Doctors were reluctant to send Habeeb in the absence of the duty doctor. The Magistrate later revealed that the doctor did not cooperate with the recording of the death statement. At the same time, Dr Habeeb said he was in casuality and was operating a girl named Jens, 19. He also said that he did not receive any direction from the magistrate.
