Thiruvananthapuram: The Elappully panchayath of Palakkad district came in first place of the Green Kerala Express, the first social reality show on Indian television showcasing the grassroots-level developmental initiatives of local bodies, winning the prize money of Rs.1 crore. The show was organised jointly by Doordarshan, C-Dit with the co-operation of Local Self Governance Department, KILA and Shuchithwa mission. Elappully panchayath bagged the first prize place with their dairy-farm project.
In second place came Akathethara panchayath of Palakkad with their nature conservation schemes, winning Rs. 50 lakh. In third place came Adaatu panchayath of Thrissur, with their natural methods of rice-farming, winning Rs.25 lakh.
In municipalities, Ottappalam came first winning Rs.50 lakh and Malappuram came second with Rs.25 lakh.
