Palakkad: Railway officials informed that Rs 7.06 crore would be spent to strengthen security measures in Kozhikode and Mangalore stations in the wake of increased terror activities in the state. As part of the upliftment measures both stations would be upgraded to world standards, lift facility, escalators and walking bridges will be set up. Rs 320 crore has also been alloted to electrify Shornur- Mangalore track.
In Kozhikode station, Rs 3.57 crore would be spent. Closed circuits TVs will be placed in platforms. Special pathways would be created for entry and exit. Metal detectors will be installed and luggage scanners too. A special squad will be formed for detecting and defusing bombs. In Kozhkode station, three lifts will be set up to connect platforms. Escalators and new walking bridges will also be placed.
