Surendran Pillai gets charge of Sports and Youth Affairs ministry

Thiruvananthapuram: V Surendran Pillai of PC Thomas faction assigned the charges of Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs , here on Saturday. The present sports minister M Vijayakumar will be given the charge of PWD department. Finance minister Thomas Isaac is now handling the PWD ministry which was handled by P J Joseph of the Kerala congress (J) .Earlier CPI registered their protest of handing over the charge to Isaac after Joseph quit the post. The day long CPM State Secretariat meeting held here on Friday witnessed conflict of opinion from various factions regarding the portfolio to be allocated to Thomas faction. Some of the members strongly opposed allocating Public Works Department to Pillai. which had been handled by his Kerala Congress predecessors P J Joseph, T U Kuruvila and Mons Joseph. Thereby the decision came against Pillai getting PWD portfolio.
