Centre not to re-examine decision to cut rubber import duty
New Delhi: The centre made it clear that at present the decision to import one lakh tones of natural rubber cutting import duty won't be reexamined. Commerce minister Anand Sharma said that each two week , the rate of the e rubber will be compared with rate in international market and steps would be taken protect farmers interest. On the basis of comparison on every two week, if needed, the cut on import duty must be re examined. Minister informed the same after meet with UDF MPs. Demanding to re examine the decision to import rubber and to cut duty, that MPs Jose Mani, P T Thomas, Anto Antony and K P Dhanapalan visited minister. Anand Sharma pointed out that there are shortage in the natural rubber in the country. He said tyre manufactures also asked for the same . He said the price is high in Indian market and low in international market and by considering all these that the decision was taken. He ensured farmers that the rubber price in domestic market would not be allowed to plunge.
